In 1995, the squad realized that citizens calling its business line were either receiving no answer (if crews were out of the station), or inconsistent treatment from whichever firefighter or rescue member happened to answer the phone.  Consequently, the squad established a customized phone number (340-KVRS), and linked the number to a multi-box voicemail system.

One strength of the system is that the 340-KVRS number is independent of any particular voicemail technology -- that is, if the squad finds an arrangement that provides more cost-effective service, it can simply have the phone company link the 340-KVRS number to the new service provider.  Our current service provider is Hello Inc.
