DUTY FIELD COMMANDER TEAM
Duty Responsibilities
- The supervisor vehicle will be checked off mechanically and equipment inventoried during
each shift. Missing equipment shall be noted and the Special Operations Captain notified
as soon as possible. Mechanical problems will be directed to EMS Maintenance Coordinator
(Maint. 2) and the Team Captain. Inventory sheets shall be placed in the Team Captain's
folder at EMS Administration.
- Unit status should be maintained throughout the shift.
- Make round to VBGH, SBH, SLH for paperwork. Pick up and deliver any paperwork to EMS
Administration or alternate drop-off locations.
- Monitor radio traffic from 0600-2300 hours or as call volume dictates after 2300 hours.
- Respond to incidents as needed. Activate EMS-10 as needed (prolonged incidents) by
directing the dispatcher to activate the EMT and CT city-wide all-call to man EMS-10.
- Report health exposures to EMS3 immediately.
- Check on reserve car status at city garage with Maintenance 2.
- Control and direct personnel and unit resource allocations so as to maintain staffing
levels on all EMS vehicles and assignments within the city to maintain adequate response
readiness. Posting of units during increased call volume may be required to decrease unit
response times.
- All ALS Duty Chiefs are expected to respond to calls requiring ALS when resources have
been depleted.
- Ensure all members of the Department of EMS adhere to the Rules, Regulations, and Policy
Manual.
